Where are you from, what do you do?

I'm from Brisbane, but live in Darwin right now. I'm in the Navy, and therefore have very limited opportunity for serious training. Every time I get back on the bike (once in the past 8 weeks for example) I have to start from scratch again. I envy all you people who get to go home each day and go for a spin.

Defending our nation is a full time job.

Good on you for your commitment to the forces. Which ship are you on?

Yes & no. I use Interactive television. It is the Canadian version of WebTV. You can compare the two like comparing Bell Express Vue to Direct TV. They both suck compared to the American versions. This enable be to get online, but has no hard drive. So no fun toys can be hooked up like scanners, digital cameras, etc.....

Sad part is that our military still uses that equipment. Like in the "Sea Kings"....

I do target specific training in the week (heart rate training). On weekends I usually do a race (80-100 k's), and a lazy two hour cycle on Sundays.

Hello VO2, i just got me a nice heart rate monitor cheapy second hand thing. Its a gud one worth like £60.

I'd like to know wot specific heart rate training u do? and what impact and i expect this to have on my cycling!

Hello all.
I am a forty something born again bicyclist. I tried to race in my twenties, went 10 years without any aerobic exercise and am now slowly getting in better shape. I have had numerous minor tendon injuries and am now convinced of the benefits of stretching.
The greatest benefit is my blood pressure is much lower and my resting heart rate is 10 beats lower. I am also losing about five to ten pounds per year.
I work as a medical lab tech.
I still have fantasies of racing as a master although a more reasonable aspiration is a century or maybe the Seattle to Portland (STP) that is 200 miles in two days.

Our weather is mild for as far North as we are. When we get snow it only stays around for half a day. We got about three inches the other night and it was gone of the roads by 11 AM. If I didn't have an 8 to 5 job I could ride pretty much every day as it is almost always above freezing in the day time. Having lived through 6 ALaskan winters anything above freezing is balmy.

I hear ya, lived in the Kootenays, Trail (closest Washington state city would be Spokane). I rode once over 500 straight days for atleast 2 hours. It snowed, but as you wrote melted by mid-afternoon. Sure was wet and maintance on bike took as long as winter ride. Miss that weather. Out here in Totonto, we can get -30C with windchill. Only thing I can do is ride the wind trainer. Has not been that cold yet.......

Did you catch any of the World Championships? I was thinking about going being that it is out of Europe only every four years and who know when it would be in North America again. I watched it on CBC as it wasn't shown on any US channels. OLN couldn't even show highlights. As far as watching it TV shows more but I would have really enjoyed the atmosphere of being there.

I'm from Virginia, USA. I am a school student (7th grade). I ride for fun, around the neighborhood with friends, but most of them have BMX bikes. I will do bike racing in the spring, as there are no leagues in the winter months up here.

Yes I did, only the PRO mens RR. It was better live then the crappy coverage on CBC. They barely showed anything during the week. Then the filming of the Pro RR sucked was I watched it recorded.

I learned alot that day. Like how truly weak the PRO/Elite females are. Times were slower then all the under 23 men. These are not even PRO yet. Must be nice to be female & have it so easy....

You wouldn't still have a copy of the CBC coverage would you?

I walked the course during the Pro Mens RR and was lucky enough to snap some timely pics. It was weeks later before I figured out who the subject was in the pic below...

I'm an English teacher in a high school in Cowdenbeath, Scotland. Started cycling about 3 months ago after 23 years in judo. Thought cycling would be less painful but the the road is much harder than a judo mat to land on!
