HI all,

I'm flying to Europe in the nearest days and started looking for a
company that would insure my bicycle. I realised most of them have a
limit of 250 pounds for a single item, and I wanted to insure my bike
for about 700 quid, where do I go with that? I've heard stories of
baggage handlers and wanted to be prepared..

Help appreciated,

Usual answer: CTC will probably cover it but they'll extract ludicrous
quantities of cash in return, usually up to about 10% of the value.

First up, see if your existing house contents covers it, or would if the
bike was a specifically named item (possibly incurring extra cost). The
only way to be sure is go through the fine print or ask directly,
they're all a bit different (for example, ours (with M&S) covers bikes
up to £4K without much in the way of caveats, we changed to them partly
because of their treatment of bikes).

Recently had a bent chainwheel on arrival in Palma and decided that I
would avoid taking a valuable bike in future , unless it was in a
case.My folder will go dismantled in a case next year. None of our
group took a best bike or insured them.

Thanks Peter,

I decided to go for Cyclecover by Butterworthinsurance.co.uk, the
premium is £58 per year,
I guess following term is pretty satndard:

So that's about it. I would still prefer to put the bike in a hard-case
for transport, but I can't afford £250 at the moment, so I'll go for
something along NeilPryde bag.

thanks for help,
Morris
