Which bike to buy

Forget about the bike and start shopping for a bike store. What you are looking for are people who sound knowledgable, are easy to talk to and seem more interested in you and how you plan to use the bike than in showing you everything they have.

Once you find the right place picking the right bike will be easy.

Avanti are good bikes and obviously your local bike shop sells them, i'd look at getting an avanti sprint retail for $900 but you should be able to get 10% off that if you shop around. Some other bikes in that range would be Appolo Ventoux or Volare, Giant OCR2 or OCR3. Felt Z100 to name a few

I just got a Giant OCR 3 ('07) carbon forks, sora gear for 800, and I am loving it. It was mentioned that you should also shop around for a LBS, I agree. I went to many and found a great one, which I will continue to go back to.
