  1. Hi,

I am after some advice on buying a mountain bike (Full suspension (I think)), I am a beginner and have not had a bike for quite a few years.

My first question is, how important is it to have a lock out on the front and back shocks? (I will be using the bike on mostly off-road tracks)

The two bikes I have been looking at are:

    • The Kona Dawg Deluxe 2009 model
    • The Giant Anthem X4 2010 model

The Giant seems to get good reviews and the Kona not so good compared to the Giant, but the Kona to me as better components?

The most I want to pay is £1400 (British Pounds)

I would really appreciate any advice.

    Thank you in advance,

    Ben

  2. im not an expert but disc brakes are a must i guess
lockout in the fork is handy too, its nice to have that option
and nowadays its better to buy a prebuilt bike rather than buying components, wheels and frameset apart, like we used to do in the past.

I currently have a Giant Trance X4 (2010 model), and I will definetly recommend it. Good price, and it is a very excellent bike that climbs and handles well, and the stock components on it are superb quality.

Not sure about the Anthem X4, but I have read from the reviews on MTBR that the Kona Dawg wheels often have to be re-trued after every ride.

  4. I ride a Specialized Epic - fully suspended, get XT all around (XTR will save weight, but just break if you mistreat it). 'Brain' system smooths out the rear suspension when you are on smooth(er) trails so it rides like a hardtail when it should.
