Which shifters needed?

  1. I am building a project bike with parts I have left over from

    years past. Which modern day shifter (non-Shimano please) can

    be used with a Mavic 862 frt. der. and 840 double rear?

    The wheel will most likely be 8 speed (Mavic 571 road).

    I think that mavic was compatible with Shimano indexing (I had a set
    of Mavic MTB shifters with a Deore XT derailleur on 8-speed).
    Therefore, anything similar would work. If it's a straight handlebar,
    SRAM "Attack" shifters would work.
