"We won today for Jan Ullrich, he can be proud of us," Klöden said.

The former Tour runner-up finished second 41 seconds behind Honchar in
the 57-km time trial from Le Creusot to Montceau-les-Mines. Honchar
also won the Tour's first time trial in Rennes.

The 1997 Tour winner Ullrich was suspended from racing on the eve of
the Grande Boucle after being implicated in a doping probe in Spain
along with team-mate Oscar Sevilla and sporting director Rudy Pevenage,
who have also been sacked.

"With Jan, we would have won the Tour this year," Klöden said.

Honchar was pleased with his victory, but left the dedications to his
German team-mate.

AK: Well, I would be lying if I said that I'd like to become fourth or
third again next year... I know that I can be up front in this race,
and that I can beat my rivals. Congratulations to Floyd Landis - he had
a bad day, too, and came back - as well as to Oscar Pereiro, who really
fought hard in the Alps. That just goes to show that you shouldn't let
somebody like him come back...

Q: Which team will you ride for next year?

AK: I don't know yet. [Klöden's contract runs out at the end of the
season - ed

End stuff

We all know how competent T-Mobile/Telekom has been tactically so
that's another strike against them. Kloden has proven that he can do
well in spite of his team, and those comments will have him ridden out
of town on a rail.
I see Gerlolsteiner as a solid option don't know if they have the
budget though.
Discovery could be an option too since they have proven they suck
without Lance, and maybe the enhancement program.

Possibly since he would have likely been in yellow when Perrero got
the 30', but I think the Alps would have been too difficult for him,
so AK would have won !

All good points. On the teams, I don't think Gerolsteiner are strong
enough. I think DSC will try to hire him as the Basso option is
probably out at this point. I'm sure AK would also be pretty happy to
stick it to the "man" who canned his friend's ass. CSC might go for it
too.

When you know that Kessler hinting that he talked to Ullrich at the
beginning of the Tour annoyed TM management, you're right that AK's
comments likely won't go down well. WTF does he care at this point
though !

My guess? Gerolsteiner dumps Levi or moves him into a minor role and hires
Kloden.

I wonder how well he would get along with Bjarne Riis. He might be too
selfish for that tight-knit club.

How many bottles of mineralwasser will Andreas sell in Amerika?

Actually I thought Kloden and Cunego produced the best performances in
this TT. Kloden could always TT, but this TT in a pressure situation must
be his best ever, if Perreiro had cracked just a little more he might
have been up in 2nd.

On the other hand nobody really thought Cunego could TT and he
showed that when he wants to he can be a top 10 finisher. Now if Valverde
could improve his TT we could be in for some epic duals between Cunego and
Valverde in 3 or 4 years time.

If AK went up the road, T-Mobile would try to chase him
down. If they could not chase him down they would not send
a team car to him.

Two years ago Kloden tooks tons of time out of Basso and moved into
second on GC in the final TT, seems like an equally pressure filled
situation.

Pereiro didn't crack at all, he rode the best TT of his life.

I Don't Know (1st time these words have appeared on r.b.r). But I do
see a fair number of Gerolsteiner jerseys around - must be all the
Markus Fothen fans...

BTW Andy Riihs credits the cycling team with not only improving
Phonak's market share, but with increasing the size of the market.
Rihs also owns BMC...
