Tried the wii fit test and now I am skeptical I don't see a connection between balance and fitness. Are balance and fitness independent or not?

Yes, to a point. Just because you can balance doesn't mean you are fit. Fitness does help you balance though, by stabilizing your joints, especially your knees.

If the Wii says it, it must be true. I've never been lied to by a Wii. ;)

haha. Nice! According to the Wii.... I've been 18yrs old and 46 all within the same week! Then every once in a while...it nails me...right on. Once in a while.

They lie to me all the time. I've learned to keep my distance...

Apparently ti chi is really good for improving your balance. I tried it once but kept falling off my bike.
