I assume this people using the power meters to tell you all of your info? Is this all it is? I've been confused when reading about all the options? What are some of the better cheaper options.

Power options are not cheap at all. Unless you want a power meter for indoor purposes on the trainer only (around $150), you're looking at minimum $800-$1,000 for a new system. But it is WELL worth it, if you love cycling. You can probably get a cheaper better deal online, or used, but I think that's the ballpark for the minimum $.

Powertap Elite+ or Pro+ would be a good choice, or even Powertap Comp (wired).

Just google or e-bay 'power meter' and you'll see.

I would recommend that you read "Training and Racing With a Power Meter" to acquaint yourself with the concept of training with power. Some of the information on the available meters is a bit dated, but there is a new version coming out soon.

Also, while a bit dated, this FAQ talks about the particular merits and "issues" with several powermeters.

First and foremost, get yourself "The Book".

What is an example of a "power meter for indoor purposes on the trainer only (around $150)" you refer to?
