HI,

Looking at buying anew windtrainer and have heard that CycleOps are good
brand but a bit expensive (fluid around $600) Currently have old Blackburn
Magtrainer. Anybody recommend any good trainers, and are new mag trainers a
lot less noisier.

Any trainer has both advantages and disadvantages:
Wind trainers: Noisy? Not much more than any other trainer in our gym.
but it does have one advantage, that it moves wind around and keeps the feet cooler than Mag ones, even if most of the time you do not realise it. Disadvantage is that it only has one setting of resistance.
Mag trainers. Quiter,, sometimes. Mine seems to be as noisy as the windtrainer. Advantages as I see it are, you have (on mine) 3 settings of resistance. Disadvantage: In hot weather it does not cool the feet and move air around the floor area.
I use a windtrainer in the warmer times when it is raining as my amputated foot get sore in wet riding conditions. I have now been given a mag trainer to use in the winter as it helps with the foot keeping warmer in colder riding. (I know ride in the lounge with the heater on)
I have not seen a fluid trainer in use so cannot help there.
Cheers

I'm using the Italian ELITE Elasto-gel magtrainer it has a nice road feel &
the elastogel roller is not so harsh on road tyres. Plus they are under
$400.
