There have been other bike-mounted iPod speaker systems, but they all
required you to put the iPod in a mount on the handlebar. It would appear
that THIS one would allow you to keep the iPod in a jersey pocket or even in
your bag, safe in case of a crash(although the speaker system costs as much
as a Nano).

Looks like Apple might have screwed these guys with the Nano redesign.

My friend has one where the iPod fits inside a rugged housing shaped
like a wide-mouth water bottle. It appears that it's carried in a
bottle holder. She has the control mounted on her handle bar but I
see no reason you couldn't carry it a pocket.

The sound was very localised. Riding next to her it was louder than
riding behind or in front of her without changing the volume.

It's a fairly sociable, yet private, audio device that looks rugged
and somewhat weather proof.
