Oooh, I wouldn't start from there....

There's a footbridge over the Dee here (http://tinyurl.com/b7m3v -
multimap link). It's a bit of a detour compared to the main road, but it
is what we (and I think many other cyclists) used to use. The bridge has
barriers which are a little trailer-unfriendly, from what I remember, if
that happens to be an issue. Haven't been there for about 5 years.

Once you are past that immediate area, the local lanes are great for
cycling.

Hi, there's a cycle path from Chester to Connah's Quay. Details can be found
here;

You can also get onto the path from Saughall and other places.
