I do like hills and I do enjoy walking ... I don't like
doing so amid heavy traffic and nutsy drivers. Our locale
does have sidewalks, but even crossing the streets you take
your life into your own hands. It never ceases to amaze me
just how unconscious and incondsiderate drivers are around
here. My house sits in a very quiet neighborhood, and is
relatively traffic free - other than those goofballs that
have to drive through in a hurry to avoid traffic lights.
The problem begins if I travel 1/2 a block to the west, 2
blocks to the east, or 3 blocks to the north ... all major
runways - two of which are considered state highways. I just
need to remember to cross at the stoplight, which is out of
my way if heading to the store. It at least gives me a
fighting chance.
Temps weren't bad today, no records, not warm but not bitter
cold either. This afternoon and evening had some serious
gusts blowing through - had my downdraft flap on the stove
rattling wildly. That is really a hoot and took me quite
some time to figure out what exactly I was hearing. When I
am upstairs, I know what it
is ... kind of bangs a little and whistles through the oven.
But when in the basement ... it sounds exactly like
someone is knocking ferociously on the door (the
exterior flap is only a few feet north and at ceiling
level of the wall the treadmill is on. A few weeks ago I
kept running up and down stairs, thinking someone was
playing games with me. I was rather slow in solving the
mystery. <G>
Hey, can you even believe that my oldest girl was asking me
this morning for excercise advice? LOL! Who woulda ever
thought! She has bought herself an eliptical machine,
finally got it up and running last week and wanted some
advise on how long she should be using it and how often. She
is being incredibly hard on herself because she is only
going 20 minutes on alternating days. I told her she really
needed to remember that she is also dealing with 2 small
children and their schedules, just gave birth 2 months ago
(and is already back to her pre-pregnancy weight), and
starting an exercise routine for the first time in many
years. Start slow, work up - my advise in a nutshell. We're
currently trying to figure out how to tunnel under the
street and connect the two basements ... could have one heck
of a gym set up. <G>
