Its got 10 rear sprokets, i think the numbers there are the amount of teeth on each sproket. (Ps what does BTW mean?)

Now go and count all the teeth on all the sprockets. I have a good reason for asking this. See ya later. BRF probably knows about valve extensions.

Phil, on the site it just says rear cogs 12-26. If you had all those you'd have 15 cogs on the cassette. Now go and drop the bloody wheel out and count them.

Sorry I didnt relise there was 15 in total, I only counted a few the first time, going to recount...

Now we're getting somewhere. Are your chainrings on the crank 39 and 53. It should be stamped on them on the inside. Next bit, no counting involved. How tall are you? and what do you weigh? I'm asking this because if you are small and light, or tall and heavyish will make a difference in the training method. Oh yes, and when will you be 14.

I am about 5ft 1 - 5 ft 2.

I weigh just about 8 stone.

Thanks for that Phil, I've got a better picture now, and it looks good. What happened to number of teeth on the 2 chainrings (cranks). I'm trying to work out what gearing to block off when you train. Right now get to bed, we don't want our future great riders to get into bad habits.

You've got a good gear selection there too (12,13,14,15,17,19,21,23,26.)
When I was a youngster, we were told to use light gears (19-26 on your rear
sprocket) and use 39 tooth front ring and simply pedal.
Using these gears improves your fitness and the more turns of the pedal per minute you can do, using these gears, the better.
(turn the pedals, in cycling, is called revs per minute - RPM - stands for the
number of revolutions (turns) of the pedal per minute - so when you see RPM
written, you now know what that means).

I'll see what Fred C suggests as regards what gears you should use before
adding anything further.

well i've finally found the xes thread, and i like what i've seen so far.
limerickman, quick question, are underage riders still using the same small gears? when i was ridng u-14 the gear max ratio allowed was 52x18.
i cant believe that the governing bodies like the fic or bcf or whoever would allow underage riders to push such large gears as philhudson has described earlier. surely there must be some limitations?
also, getting away from the last subject, does anyone here know anyone looking to buy a very good second hand bike (mine) at a very good price?

Junior cycling in Ireland is restricted to low gears - that's still in place.

As regards a second bike - I may have someone who might be interested, depending on frame size, primarily.

not 100% sure yet, but i was thinking around 1200/1300. the frame is only 7mths old and the group is 18mths. there is a flightdeck computer and it also has itm millenium finishing kit and a pair of open-pro's on ultegra included in the price.
