G'dat BRF, Keep up the good work, and good luck with the Champ's, Austria eh? Just wait till they put a couple of l's in there, and you'll get a real tatse of good weather, it was 34C yesterday and I was out before the sun got too high in the sky. After that I spent the rest of the day at my son's place in the pool, it was still bloody hot, only trouble with that is, I got me baldy spot burnt a bit?

My kilometres are not much to, be written about but I'm happy, it's the riding that counts for me, just out there in the fresh air and I mean fesh air straight off the Southern Pacific Ocean. It's magic stuff, I know you poor sods are getting it rough and I'm a lucky ******* too, maybe when they decide to do the Masters in OZ you'll come on down?

Kilometres so far since Christmas are only "875" just take a tick over the next tenth, that's enough for me at present, I've got nothing to aim at except fitness and maintaining/losing a bit of weight. As you said to Lim one week off the bike is the loss of two weeks work on it. I'm just hoping my brother in law in the UK has still got his old mountain bike so I can still get at least a couple of small rides in round Maidstone in Kent.

My loverly wife reminded me today it's only twleve weeks away, doesn't the time fly when your having fun, it's so much fun I can hardly contain myself.

August is going ot be a real struggle for me to get back into it again.

I'm going, I've just looked at the clock it's 11.50pm and I'm supposd to be going out early in the morning, before it get too bloody 'ot.

If your reading here Fred, I'll have a Google at the Dave Bedwell site, but that's tomorrow, Bounanotte, TBC
hi there, well now we have got HOW GOOD WE ARE of our chests (sorry did not mean that honest ).. yes i agree, its getting out ont bike that matters,, like i have said to lim and the others, i have not really stopped getting in the miles since i was about 11 well easter sunday 1956, it was my first ever club ride with the bradford social b section of the ctc..we did 100 miles that day, as you know, out to diner place, corned beef sandwich, then to tea place, ham sandwich then the ride home in the dark,, to me it was a godsend, **** family life, where " no money" no hope "no future" prevailed,, i was hooked, been at it ever since.... i myself have spent many a mile on the side of the indian ocean in seeeth afreeka,, just warm super weather, most of the year round,, i did a lot of racing, and maybe it was because i got in twice as much training in than the others,, i did so well... i now live at the side of the med, the weather pound for pound is even better,, except for last few days, in fact 2 weeks, when the temps just went down off the thermometer, my average over those 2 weeks should have been 800kms, i still got in 600kms so its not too bad.... there is now 27 days to the first race, cannot wait,, my new shimano wheels are ready,, hey i bought a pair of specialized QRS ont ebay.. for 12€ they weigh only 79grams for the 2... don't know why i buy stuff on ebay, but its the feeling of getting expensive stuff for nowt...any way there you go... bon courage.... hey sun's shinning and its warming up,,,

Well you could wear your chip 'ole # one uniform of the West Yorkshire Murderers Regiment with a peaked oppy at and medals galore rattling in the saddlebag with the tins of bully beef and spare re-fried batteries.

I see that the Lancashire 8th Army, formerly known as the Pennine Rats have left in numbers to take on the defence of the West Pennines against the marauders from the east.
The battleground is an area of difficult mountainous terrain covering some several thousand square miles.
The Lancashire riders claim to have the upper hand in culinary delights, such as black puddings, and Hollands steak and kidney puddings.
The malnourished Yorkshire could only come with flimsey Puds, without a sniff of beef.
Wasn't that all good fun last season? I can't understand why people accused me of sending in anons to reply to myself.
I never needed them
bonjour.

i refuse to grab the bait,, we all know that if you ask anybody in the world wot goos wi roast beef, they say yorkshire pudding, even here in france would you belive.. keep it up.. bon courage..

G'day BRF, I can relate to your sentiments of family life, Me, one of six, middle, two above, three below, shared a tin bath 'int font of fire, Dad a docker for fifty five years, Mum's never went to work them day's. Make yer own luck them day's.

The bike was an escape for me too, first long ride Weston Super Mare, fourteen years old, school holiday's 1952 to see me bruvver. Stayed with him a week, felt like a baron on me fixed wheel bitsa, hand painted everything, except the black rubbery fings' it looking very scmick. It took me seven hours to get there first time, from East End of London.

I've never bought anything on e'bay, know a few who have and by there acccounts, it's was a **** fight getting the goods after they sent the money?
I've since been told you deal through a third party? I suppose I'm a baron who buy's everything new. My new wheels since the, 90kph knock down are Mavic OPENPro on Shimano Ultegra, with SS spokes. The bloke who KO'ed me has done a runner interstate, both the coppers and the insurance company are looking for him, meantime I had to pay for his bastardry?

I stayed out too long this mornring, I was only going for a couple of hours but ended turning left a couple of times, instead of right and right again to get home a bit quicker. I have just spent the last hour and a half mowing the grass which never stops growing this time of the year. Me pins are feeling the pressure so I'm now sittin' with the weight off 'em, and that's how I intend to spend the rest of the day.

My cousin lives in Perth, he did live in, as you say, Seeouth afreeka, he worked for a shiping agency or something of that nature, he said the weather is very similar in both places, except it gets pretty cold there in winter especially at night.

I'm going to get something to eat, a nice bit of black pudding, with some salad, the only trouble with black pud' here it's not the same as old country?

Keep the wheels in motion? TBC

Congratulations, BRF and limerickman, for great kms in January. That's really motivating.

Nothing wrong with a tin bath. I have visions of Mr Darcy in the bath - must go and find worn out Pride and Prejudice DVD :D

I've never had a problem with ebay. I've bought sunglasses and saddles and other things without a problem. Have to watch the postage charges these days as I've heard people complain about sellers wanting $US50 to post relatively small items (not advising buyers of exorbitant postage until after the buyer has paid).

It was 36C a few hours ago and now it's freezing cold with the mother of all storms about to hit. Glad I got my ride in earlier.

bonjour, quite true, i do think, that the bike riders of our time, were a bunch of boys trying to get out of the family situation as it was in the 50's/early 60'a,, mi dad, who was a good rider, 1.5.42 in 1938 aint bad, and rode in the first brighton to glasgow 1945, see the book "the history of the tour of britain" by peter a clifford,,(its yellow if you ever get your hands on it ). mi dad is in there, he was presented to the king in buck house,, he was captain of the armed forces team,,, he rode for the medway wheelers..it was just after the war and there was a feeling of desperation in all working famillies...well i degress, yes when you get out those first few times, and the pain disapears, its was and is magic...where there was "no job", no money" "no hope," "no future", everything was BRIGHT and greatont bike.i think it was an escape,, many fell by the wayside, but quite a few carried on,,, are we the last of the characters, i think so.. yes i buy a lot of BITS on the ebay, i have a little busines sell all sorts of stuff, from bike bits to computer stuff,,, i check out the sites around europe, and if i see something cheap say in austria, i buy it and sell it in france, or vice versa..as i said, i bought a pair of new shimano wheels from a cycle specialist in france on ebay,, saved about 80 euros, say £50 paid for them and got them about 7 days later in a big box...these are to replace a pair of mavic cosmos wheels, why, well i was riding a 2 up TT last year, i had just done a long flat out bit on the front, my partner got passed me, but failed to indicate a huge pot hole or "nid de poule" as they say here, well i went bang into it.. both tyres gone and a flat spot on the rims,,, i spent a few hours knocking out the flat spots and now i ride then when i am training, they have a very slight bump to them but only on super smooth roads,, ours are 95% non smooth, so they are ok..

been out this morning with mrs brf club , it has WARMED up at last, but the bloody wind is blowing its 60/80 with gusts up to 100kph... still managed to get in 80kms,,,,thats my minimun. 260kms by thursday, 50 ks sat with mrs brf, 100 on sunday with the boys,, that gets me over 400 ks for the week...

yes a lot of seeeeth afreekans live in perth, its the first place you come to when you head east from africa,,,i have quite a number of friends there,, we are due out for a holiday maybe next year 2006,,,,mrs brf's sister lives in adelaide...

ps when are you in the uk... april 10th by any chance......

see ya bon courage.

bonjour" Mlle Meow", tin baths are great, i remember getting home on a sunday night after the club run in winter, mi mum had the old yorkshire range burning away with coal mi dad had pinched from the mill yard just around the corner, some time it was old tyres and bits of wood from the council tip next to the mill, all provided good burning fuel,, i digress. in i would cum and mi mum had this tin bath full of hot water ready, it was great, the olds yorkshire range had a little tank at the side, mi mum poured in cold water and half an hour later, bingo luverly and hot... was the warmest place in the house because "lady "our cat allways had her kittens in the oven part,, oh those were the days... yes with ebay if i see something i take a fancy to, i always look at the del costs,, if it is too high i forget it.. but if it is not shown i email the seller and get it in a reply emai.. i once bought on the german site a shimano VTT or MTB gear, i got it for 3 euros.. it was worth about 30 euros,, when i got the email with the costs on, he wanted 20 euros to post,,, told him where to shuv it.. well its 25 c int back yard, in the sun,,, BUT the sodding wind is blowing like a "crazy man" as mi doctor sias to me.. thats keeping it colder, but by thursday it should be back to normal.. luvverlly...bon courage..how many kms this year ?????

I got on the whole thing a couple of years before BRF did. Our father and mother had produced 14 children, there were 6 girls, 5 boys, and three don't knows.
I borrowed? a junior tricycle from the girl next door, and was found by the Police completely lost and disorientated some 15 miles from home, they gave me tea and cakes, and drove me home in a van. I did the same thing for the next week, but by then I'd got at least 90 miles in . Well they've never kept me out of the Police Station since.
I really must do justice to alliterations.

Hey don't worry about the MCM bit, it will have been appreciated, the only difference for you is to distinguish between irony and murder. It took me years to work out London humour, it ain't worth a carrot.

G'day Fred again, so that explains it all, disorientated 15 miles from home, I know the feeling well.

A visit to the local hostelry does it every time?

And I thought it was only me who got like that, and I only drink water, maybe it's the scotch they put in it.

Probs with the trouble and strife then?

Not quite old chap just have to tear oneself away from this device, and of course get a bit of fresh air.

Sitting in air conditioning get a trifly stuffy, what?

Mind you it was like jumping out of the fry pan into the bloody fire, hoewever as long as one keep moving foreward, that is, the air stream isnt too bad and provides a little cooling, just being able to see the sea is fanbloodytastic...?

One of the guys collapsed on Sunday morning, we delivered him home aftre the ride and he looked fine, however his wife phoned about an hour later saying he was at the doctors. The verdict was he had suffered a heat stroke, but was alright today, although a little slower.

Got to go again, the dogs barking at someone who's trying to batter down the front door.

Oh, it's ok, just the boys in blue again? TBC

Bonjour

Not many km so far this year, I'm afraid. I've had elbow and wrist injuries and it's taken two months to be able to hold the handlebars for more than half an hour. I can ride every second day now. I want to do 1,000 in Feb and 1,300 in March and start speed training again. My legs feel fine but my heartrate is still blowing out too easily - it's amazing how quickly condition disappears :(

36 degrees yesterday, 13 today. The coldest February day on record - I'll dig out the winter gear for tomorrow.

Brian, it is your civil duty to chunnel and find FredC. He will probably be at Eurosport headquarters, beating their webmasters over the head with heavy objects if they haven't resurrected his bulletin board on time.

G'day MM, I told you about that Melbourne weather, now admit it didn't I.

You wouldn't listen to me, anyway it will probably be 34C by Friday, so don't panick now.

Keep up the good work on the bike, you'll have to come up and ride the Queensland Ladies Titles in October, get a bit of speed work in them pins and you'll be taking home a gold or two?

As far as Fred is concerned he'll be hiding somewhere over there, I've already threatened him with that, I can see him now trembling in his boots, the thought of meeting me face to face.

Now that could be very scary?

Ok I'm going to check something else out and get to bed, Catch yer round?TBC
