As I woke up to another NJ snow storm, which will probably keep the
snow and ice on the ground for another month, I wondered why I bought a
bike in September.
Between the freezing temps, the rain, and the snow storms, it has not
been easy to get any riding out of my new found hobby. My bike at the
gym and the one in my basement are the only bikes I seem able to ride.
And you can not compare that to riding outdoors. It is totally
different.
Seems all other sports can be taken indoors. I can play tennis
indoors, swim indoors, walk indoor tracks, run on indoor tracks, roller
skate at the roller rink, but where the hell do I take my bike and ride
during the winter. Plus, as winter comes to a close, I am sure we will
get alot of rain this spring.
Take that into consideration, plus the fact that I work all week and
run a business in the evening and it narrows down to weekends for
distance riding during the good weather months. How much time is that??
I am not the kind of person who will ride through storms, rain, hail,
gusty winds and all the other horrid riding conditions Mother Nature
wants to bestow upon us so I wait for the good days.
Maybe thats why so many guys in my area of Jersey seem to think riding
a bicycle is a girly sport. (Those are not my words, don't beat me up
over it).... Plus no one in Jersey wears spandex except "Jersey
girls" caught in a time warp with Big Hair...;-) There are definately
alot of motorcycles here though.
Did I have a point when I started writing this. Yes I did. IT'S
SNOWING AGAIN and my bicycle is rotting away in the shed.
I guess I am a little bummed out today by another snow storm.
Shoveling out to get to work at 7:00 a.m. while you are freezing your
ass off, can put anyone in a bad mood. Well, at least I got some
exercise I suppose. Thanks for allowing me to rant.
