Yep, and it's going to be the last one.

Mmm, no bent, no folder. Will I stand out like a sore thumb on an
'Ordinary' ? Looks like fun though.

On an 'Ordinary' you'll be head and shoulders above the rest. You might
be a little less noticable on a 'Safety Bicycle'.

Plenty of ordinaries there so no worry. Last one had lunch with Mike Burrows
and Hanz Scholz (Bike Friday) in the canteen which was a fascinating
conversation to be part of. It is pretty interesting to take part in group
rides with everything from big wheeled unis to flat on the floor recumbents
and a number of homemade specials. Much more bike stuff to chat about than in
a group of ordinaries. Plus small enough to be very friendly.

Probably doesn't, but it is the last one. The organisers want a rest.

Of course I mean't a 'Safety Bicycle', they are not out of the ordinary
these days.

Regarding a u.r.c. meet up at York Rally, I propose meeting in or close
to the Refreshments tent at about 14:30. If its not raining I'll hang
around outside with my blue/grey Raleigh Royal tourer and black 'The
Cyclery - Burlington Iowa' cap or if its cold a yellow/red/black knitted
'Raleigh Levis' ski hat.

If it is raining I'll be inside, look for the hat.

You could seek out my 'girly pink Roberts' [1]
Far more appropriate to a cycling event ;-)

Was it you who said they were Round the Island-ing? I thought you were
based in Scotland or somewhere similarly northerly. I wasn't doing it
myself but as the boat is now (belatedly) back in the water I'm more
than a little bit frustrated that I won't be going anywhere this
weekend. I've just come back from a bit doing final prep (ie stowing
beer). Even if I don't sail, I'll have an evening in the cockpit.

Well, I'm planning on a Round the Isle of Man sometime this summer, but
otherwise no. Racing - particularly in a vast horde of other boats -
isn't really my thing. Boat (and other) pictures here:

You do have a bit of an excuse this year!

Agreed. The downside of the Solent being that it can, on occasion (ie
every weekend between May and September), be a little busy. Adds a
little spice to my life; avoiding racing fleets, massive container
ships, fast ferries and 1001 other sailors. Fortunately, it is my
local water so I get some quiet weekday evenings.

I think it as probably me - I shan't be doing it; I have just got home from
Lymington having stocked up the boat with buns, bananas etc. Whilst Dusley
and his crew get wet and wind-blown I shall be in Salisbury collecting his
new Specialized Allez from the bike shop. If it's fine on Sunday we may
cycle to the pub to celebrate his new bike!( The Cuckoo at Hamptworth if
anyone knows it , and purveyors of excellent beer)

Ahh. One of my favourite pubs and a grand ride out to it. Do they
still serve beer from the wood there?

Yep, the pub changed hands about 3 years ago and is now run by Tim who used
to run Yot Grot in Lymington. He has maintained the tradition of serving
excellent, well-kept beer. He also does basic food and has an annual beer
festival. For us it is only a 3 mile ride although we can always go the long
way...

Good. Sounds like its in safe hands then.

Wonderful. Nice to hear it hasn't been spoilt by the megabrewcorps.
Have a pint for us next time you're there. Real ale hasn't reached New
Zealand yet. :-(

Used to do a "New year Resolution Bike Ride" for my sailing friends. Start
at The Royal Oak (Fritham), then The Lamb at Nomansland followed by the
freewheeling racedown the back lane to the Cuckoo then back to The Kings
Head in Redlynch and home to Hot food and falling asleep in front of the log
fire. Good fun and for the occaisional cyclist - mainly downhill!
