I'm doing a DIY pemanent tomorrow and part of the route takes in the York
Selby cycle path. I'm sure that i saw that the York end was under water
earlier in the week.

Do any of the York based users of urc know what the current state of play
is?

Cheers

The section from Riccall to ~Escrick will probably be rather muddy,
however once you're north of Escrick it's tarmac'd and should therefore
be okay. (The sections across the actual racecourse (all of about 10-20
metres!) might be a bit dodgy as well, but could be avoided by going
through Bishopthorpe instead.)

Once you get into York, and the route drops down to the riverbank then
you may be in trouble. The river is certainly high enough to have wiped
out the paths on both banks near the Royal Mail building, and I believe
the same is true of the east bank south of there. IIRC, the west bank is
a little higher so you might be okay getting into the centre of York.

Pardon my ignorance. What is a "DIY permanent"?

It sounds painful :)

A DIY permanent is an Audax ride where the route is chosen by the rider and
done on a date specified in advance. I've ridden about ten 100km permanents
of other types in the past year and tomorrow's permanent will be my first
ever DIY 100km.

You can find out more about permanents at the Audax UK web site
www.audax.uk.net

As it stands I might not make a start as I've been fighting off a chest
infection and I'm not quite sure if my lungs are up to it. I don't want to
make things worse as I want to be able to ride during the Xmas holidays.
