Juliette's Royale (which my little sister bought new twenty plus years ago) has twelve speed from
new. The deraileur mechanisms are badged 'Raleigh' but seem to be Suntour. They aren't indexed but
the shifters have a clicky action on the clutch.

Dyna Tech Cromo Comp .. (Raleigh) of about 10 years old .. ish .. 😉

However, every part except the frame is not original, everything has been changed when worn or
broken, or simply been upgraded.

An '03 Giant Central Park, which is a flat-barred 700c bicycle. It replaced a similar Giant bike I
had since '96. At 6'7'', "Giant" is the only appropriate brand for me.

I'm having some trouble with the terminology (but so do the native speakers themselves too 😉

My main bike is a 9 year old Giant Custom Superlight, probably described as a hybrid. Used with
narrower tires for city commuting and with thicker tires for camping holidays. When I bought it it
replaced my Dutch type fixed gear heavy bike (I had moved to the edge of Amsterdam so wanted
something with a bit more speed and gears to cope with long the long steep bridge I had to cross
and the sort of wind you can get in flat open terrain, but it also needed to cope with the amount
of tram rails and broken up poorly paved road surfaces you find in Amsterdam) and took over from my
old tourer for holidays (enough gears to get up the cols in the Vosges and able to carry a lowrider
and able to cope with the odd bit of offroad though it doesn't have suspension and doesn't do mud
very well)

My other bike hasn't been used much recently but is probably an Audax. Drop bars and thin rims, but
with mudguards and a rack. Mainly kept for sentimental reasons: I put it together from various bits
and pieces about 15 years ago. Have used it in the past for holidays, fast long commutes, and time
trials as part of rowing triathlons.

To be added, as soon as I have made up my mind what I want: a shiny New Toy for touring, probably
involving a comfortable seat

199x Kona Fire mountain with road tyres and a pair of almost siezed manitou comp XC's.

It is dark blue, almost black and needs a new seatpost.

Yes, I got the blue/grey model with silver/red lettering - which I think you have also.

I can't remember what brands the original shifters & mech were: maybe Sachs. It had some sort of
"power ratchet" friction levers.

Enjoy the bike - and keep it for ever! There have many times where I've come close to chucking the
whole thing away but am so grateful I didn't right now.

After getting the saddle and bar positions comfortable, I'm particularly enjoying the customised
9-speed triple drivetrain* I've put on, with Mirage Ergo levers. I couldn't have imagined this
luxury all those years ago when I first had the bike. Upgrade cost was kept down by using discarded
wheels, chainset, BB, front brake and front mech from a '99 Dawes Giro 500 road bike. Stays were
DIY-spread to 130mm.

* Veloce cranks with 26/40/50 rings with 14-30 modified cassette - worth sacrificing high gears to
get lots of low and middle gears on this type of bike, I find.
