BikeE E2 front rim blowout -> replacement ideas?

I have a used BikeE E2. If the previous owner is to be believed,
there is less than 1500 miles on it.
I inflated my front tire to 85 PSI. The rim couldn't handle it. I
found this odd as the tire is rated to 110 PSI. I belive this was the
original rim, an Alex AL_DM 24.
What have others used for replacements? It seems hard to find a rim
in this size.
BTW, I will NOT be going back to the store that said I could inflate
that tire all the way up to 110 PSI.

The Maxxis Hookworm will work fine at 110 psi on a proper rim - the ISO
54-406 works fine at that pressure on Velocity Taipan rims.

However, there is a problem finding a suitable rim for use with the ISO
54-305 size.

"There is one problem with this tire. It was designed for the front of
the SWB BikeE2 tandem, which explains why it weighs almost as much as
the 20" version. However, as of July 2000 BikeE hasn't been able to find
a 305 rim which will allow it to be run at maximum pressure. BikeE sells
the tandem with this tire, but with an 80 psi. sticker added.
Unfortunately 80 psi. isn't enough, for a tire this small, on the front
of an SWB tandem." - Mark Stonich [1]

I am unaware if any suitable rims have come to market since the above
was written.

Call Pantour. Tell them that you want a 36 hole 16 inch front wheel.

They will fix you up with a dandy.

Actually it may be more complicated than this. I had one of the first
BikeE E2s. Twice the tire blew off the rim at 85psi. BikeE sent me a new
wheel. It appears that there was a batch of bad rims, slightly undersized as
I remember. Had no problems with the replacement.
As a sub. you could get a 305 ALEX DM24 rim 28h on a good quality hub
built. It would work with the Maxxiss. I have also put a Kenda Kwest 305
16X1.50 100 psi tire on a BikeE with success.
