TR Bardon Hill (+Beacon Hill)

Bardon Hill
Started the short walk to Bardon Hill at SK45992 13199, within the
suburb Agar Nook of Coalville. Although aware of the vast quarry
operation aurally, visually not aware until (other than the warning
signs) virtually at the summit (?). The walk to the summit is very easy
on a grassy path. The summit itself has a few rocky outcrops, trig
point and an information board stating that the hill was created via
volcanic action.

Statistics: ~2.8km walked, ascent 93m

Beacon Hill
Walk commenced at the southern end of Woodhouse Eaves, SK52752 14677
(too tight to pay £1 at the Lower Beacon Hill car park (!)). All road
walking until the paths joined at Lower Beacon Hill car park. The
paths are very easy pushchair & wheelchair friendly except for the last
few hundred metres to the summit. The summit is far larger than Bardon
Hill but, again, has several rocky outcrops that children will have
safe, fun clambering over. At the top is a trig point and circular
plaque providing information on the panorama, great view all round but
particularly good views of Loughborough. Strangely when at the plaque
the trig point seems higher but when at the trig point the situation is
reversed. GPS readings seem to indicate that the plaque is 1m higher!

Statistics: ~5.1km walked, ascent 189m
