New commuter looking for tips

So I have recently started commuting to work via bike. Now the main reason I started was because my truck broke down and I wanted to save up for a nice newer truck. I'm looking for some tips from you all who do this everyday. My round trip is about 3.64 miles but will be getter longer as I intend to take alternate routes home to make it more interesting. Now none of my route options are the safest. (No sidewalks nor trails and my route to work is a steep windy road thru some woods where I hit about 39 mph according to my app on my phone). My cycle is a lynx extremist (classic walmart style mountain bike) which I got free thru my dad. Need help with base miles!!

Hey guys, beginner here. I have the fluid2 by cycleops and I was wondering, at what speed and cadence should my base miles be at? Also do you guys know any trainer workouts I can do? I've been reading that if you don't develop base miles correctly you will reach max performance sooner and won't be able to improve. Thanks guys Dave » read more

I've been riding for over a year now, and although I know it takes years to fully develop a proper aerobic engine, I think I have a good base. I usually train about 8-10 hours a week. My main goal right now is time trials. I wanted to pick a year to do an Ironman. I was considering doing one in 2015. Weight loss and loss of power

Hey everyone. Being that I'm quite overweight - 5' 10" at 196 lbs - I had decided a month ago after my last A priority event to start focusing on weight loss during the off-season. I was fine until recently. I've been doing mainly Zone 3 rides and SS intervals in an attempt to maintain (or maybe increase) my FTP during the off-season. And, I don't have the hours required to get any benefit out of Zone 2 riding. My SS intervals feel like full out threshold intervals now. Zone 3 after a good solid 30 minutes start getting super tough. My heart rate is higher than it normally was before I started the caloric reduction as well. I have nothing left it seems. broken clavicle...surgery or not?

I broke my clavicle June 21st (pretty painful but still was a fun ride prior to the fall). I have been presented the option of surgery or the old fashioned "let it heal as is". I have never broken a bone in my 33 year life span and am weighing the pros and cons of surgery. » read more
