Shimano Sora was stock on my Devinci (Canadian-made) touring bike (3 front, 8 rear). It appears my rear shifter is now hooped and will cost upwards of CD$200 to replace.
Since I may end up touring 3rd-world, maybe now is the time to go back to friction shifters...they can be jury-rigged or fixed in the field, with "blunt-instrument" tools. I started riding with down-tube shifters and would have no problem re-adapting.
Advice? Can anyone point me to some literature, web articles?
TIA
