Giant FCR 1

I am looking for a new ''performance hydrid bike'' mostly for urban traveling. I looked at most of the major brands available in Canada in accordance with my budget ($1500). My #1 choice right now is a Giant FCR 1. It as a composite fork and stay. This bike is among the lightest I have seen in this category. It as XERO XSR-2 rims and hubs, TRUVATIV Elita crank and a SRAM X9 shifter and dérailleur.

Do you think this bike is a good choice? I specialy do not know much about the SRAM X9 dérailleur. This dérailleur seem to made for mountain bike.... Is it a goog choice for a road bike?

I would apreciate your comments.

Thank you

Funny, I just ordered one. The bick shop had last year's FCR3 in my size, and after riding that, I ordered a 2006 FCR1. We've been getting a lot of rain here too.

I was able to do a short ride today .... in between two showers! The bike run very smoothly. I realy enjoy its light weight, compared with my old chrome moly bike.

I should also tell you I had my dealer to change the original seat that did not impress me. I also changed the pedals that were clip on only, for clip type on one side and clipless on the other side.

I also read that some owners complain about the Michelin dynamic tires.

My overall impression after the first ride, is very good.

Does your FCR-1 have bar ends? Do you like them?

Re: Giant FCR 1

Tyres,

Michelin Dynamic are standard on many bikes. You will find they bounce qute a bit and the rolling resistance is high. Conti Ultra Gator Skins in 23mm are very good, GP4000s in 23mm are even better to ride on. I have a Flat Bar Felt and 23mm GP4000s at 90/100 psi and I'm 80kg.

Thanks for the update. My bike should be in Wed. The test ride I took on last year's FCR3 was impressive. It felt very light and fast, and I expect my FCR1 to be even better. I like the idea of reversable pedals...may have to look into that. According to the website, my bike should come with Kenda Kontender tires instead of the Michelins, but I guess I'll see when it arrives. To the other poster, it should also come with the bar ends.

Re: Giant FCR 1

I picked up my FCR1 tonight after work. It's a sweet looking bike. I haven't ridden it yet except for on a trainer at the store to adjust the cleats. I swapped the clipless pedals that came with it for Shimano PD-M324 ATB Pedals for an additional $15. Clipless on one side, regular on the other. I had the shop install a kickstand that goes on the rear triangle. It's black and a better match for the bike. Just finished installing the computer, pump, and water bottle cage. I'm looking forward to taking it out this weekend. It does have the bar ends, and it didn't come with Michelin tires.
I was planning to sell my old bikes http://www.columbuscycling.com/forum...opic.php?t=265 but now I think I may keep at least one of them for when I don't want to take the "good bike".

Re: Giant FCR 1

Hey I just got mine almost a week ago. I got the 05/06 with the rear stay carbon fiber. I got Dynamic Mich tires. They seem to work well for me. The rear Sram is awesome. I have some concerns about the front though. The rides have been fast and smooth. I LOVE IT, THANK GOD this is the best bike I have ever owned I hope to put it to great use. Has anyone been able to find any other forums about our bikes maybe we should start one of our own and keep each other updated with tips and tricks as well as concerns?

I have had my Giant FCR 1 since 2010. I recently got back into biking after going to the gym. I grew weary of being indoors. Been riding for 9 months straight every day.

I ride my FCR 1 every day unless it rains for at least 1.5 hours. I love it. Best bike ever!

It's light, makes tight turns a breeze. Best bike ever. This is my 2nd Giant bike. My first was a mountain bike. I am 58 and it's really gotten me in shape! I ride fast and hard over rocks in the road. Get some good tires like Continental all Season. I kept getting flats due to humps on the road. But my Giant holds together. I ride it  hard just so you know.

You will love your FCR 1. Take it for a spin at your local bike store.
