Last year the challenge was pretty motivating for me and I would like to give it another go. I was just given clearance by the surgeon to start indoor riding; yesterday was my first day riding since my crash on 8/12/2011.

I would like to propose some changes to this year’s challenge. First let’s include indoor rides so we can extend the season. Second, I think we should change the goal to 30,000 miles. Last year we rode 17,049 miles and the challenge started May 6, so with the extra time and including indoor miles I think we can make it. Finally, since this is the “Clydesdales” section of the forum, we may want to include our starting weight (1/1,2012) and current (as of the most recent ride) weight (weight can be optional if people don’t want to include this).

Just like before, we’ll track the cumulative miles and see where we end up. It starts 1/1 2012 and ends 12/31/2012 – the new goal is 30,000 miles.

Cumulative Miles: 0 + 10.3 + 9.9 = 20.2
Start 283.6 current 283.6

Note: edited to reflect start date as 1/1/2012 instead on 2/20/2012

I think that getting parity on indoor miles would be tough. I do spin classes about 3 to 5 hours a week, the bikes have no computers at all; it doen't matter anyway because spin miles would not be equivalent to road miles. I also use rollers, the issue is the same I can maintain 25+ pretty easily. Perhaps we could use a conservative conversion from stationary time to miles.

I have about 200 miles over the road since Jan 1st, but none this week. Why not make the challenge for the whole year?

I agree that miles on the trainer are not the same as miles on the road -- but (as you said) we can just book miles that are reasonable (not overstated). I like the idea of starting 1/1/2012.

On the road = 224 miles
Spin + trainer time ~ 45 hours at 18mph = 810 miles

47.7 + 810 + 224 = 1081.7 miles

maydog: That brings us closer to our goal! /img/vbsmilies/smilies/smile.gif

1081.7 + 14.3 = 1096.0

283.6 279.8

1096 + 14.5 = 1110.5

283.6 279.8

My playlist -what do you listen to when on the trainer?

After a week and a half hiatus from cycling:

1148.3 + 54 (on the road) + 20 (stationary) = 1222.3

This is kinda cool! Well, I just got my bike February 14, so can't go back to January 1. Had 147.4 on the odo before last ride:

1307.3 + 147.4 + 46.2 = 1500.9

Oops, forgot weight: Start: 217.2, now 210.6 (one month)

1510.9 + 163 (over the road) + 40 (trainer/spin class) = 1713.9 Where is BHOFM - he is usually good for lots of miles?
