G'day,

I'm heading up to Sydney for a couple of weeks next month. I'll be bringing my bike up and looking to do a fair bit of riding while I'm there.

I'll be staying in Wahroonga on Fox Valley Rd - I was wondering if there were any good road rides around there. I'm not necessarily looking for group rides but I would prefer to be riding somewhere where riders tend to go (if that makes sense). However if there are some regular group rides in the area I would love any info on them: pace, distance etc. I don't mind a few hills either.....

Any info would be much appreciated - if this thread has been done before please point me in that direction??

Cheers,

Sam

Sam,

lots of info in this thread
Cheers matagi,

Yeah I saw that thread - a lot of it seems to be bike path/rail trail rides which is not really what I'm looking for. Will have a better look at a few of the links to see what I can find....

Sam,

the links to Bike North are probably your best bet - they have a number of organised rides of varying skill levels.

Hi Sam,

Both of these websites show a number of very popular training routes near to the Wahroonga area.

I can recommend the northern suburbs cc ride through Bobbin Head on Saturday mornings, and the Peleton Sports ride through Akuna Bay on Saturday morning is particularly good with three groups of skill level and strong ride leadership.

The ride from Chatswood/Roseville on Tuesday mornings is an excellent 1 hour hit out with two short but testing climbs. If you can't climb then head out over the Roseville Bridge 5mins early and wait/catch up at the BP servo so you're not left behind.

Dawn Patrol on Wednesday is very hardcore with a lot of State and National level riders banging hard on the pedals. All balls and bravado down into Bobbin Head with leg breaking pace on the flatter runs. Pace eases slightly once you head down towards Akuna Bay. Group peters out as you approach Manly and people head off to work.

Paceline work with Peleton Sports at Homebush is perfect if you're into progressively harder riding on a good surface. Sprint training (Peleton Sports, Homebush) on Wednesday nights is unbelievable. Speeds of up to 75kmh in the dark 6-8 abreast - crazy and thrilling stuff but seemingly always safe.

Hope you find a couple of rides that you like :)

Thanks guys - the peloton sports and north sydney cc rides look good (and pretty close to home) so will probably end up joining a couple of those - looking forward to a bit of a change of scenery!!!
