  1. My 2004 ultegra (2004 cannondale caad7 frame) shifting is rough and noisy ... and the bike was just serviced 300k ago. Have ridden my girlfriend's 2004 105 bike and it felt better.

Does my local bike shop know what they are doing?

Which shop in Sydney (near the city) Aust is the best for service and gear adjustment?

Try adjusting the barrel adusters on the RD by 1/4 turn and see if it helps.

  3. which way do you turn them?

Turning it counter-clockwise makes the pulley move towards the larger cogs. Shift to an intermediate cog and pedal - see if the noise goes away for every quarter-turn.

Check out ParkTool's guide on rear derailleur adjustment.

  5. Try Clarence St Cyclery. Those guys are unreal.
