I don't think they do. I think they are there so that a blind rider
can have the opportunity to compete.

The 4km I think was won by Rob Crowe and Keiran Modra.
Rob Crowe competed at the Barcelona Olympics and is
not disabled (somehow that term just doesn't sound right).
In fact he coaches a friend of mine.

slightly OT, but why did they drop tandem racing from world champ and Olympics?
Its a darned side more genuine than 'dressage' (runs away. in tophat n tails...)

medal able bodied pilots in the women's tandem sprint (Janelle Lindsay - yay
Randwick Botany! and Ellen Hunter (GBr)) have both had serious accidents in
the last 12 months. Janelle was hit by a car in August last year and spent
several weeks in hospital, while Ellen crashed in June and badly injured her
back. Pretty impressive to see them both back in action.

RU sure ? Crowey races all the time at a club level and you'd need a

I reckon the captain should have no pedals and basically be like the jockey
on a horse......they could all weigh in at a set weight and then all the
stokers are on a level playing field (apart from the banked corners of
course)
