Ok. I have a pair of the dura ace spd-sl pedals and a pair of the sidi genius 4 road shoes with I think the mellenium soles that requie the adaptor plates. The pedals and shoes do work and have never had a release problem or anything but the cleats are really loose when clipped in. If the shoe in clipped in it can rock on the sock and the nose of the cleat can lift up and down when in the pedal. It is really noticable when climbing seated... when I pull up on the pedals they even make a little clicking noise because of the amount of play in the system. I am using a look adapter plate with the soles and the floating version of the cleat.
My wife has the same pedal but uses shimano spd-sl shoes with her's. Her cleat(floating as well) does not have any of this play/movement. When I have put her shoes in my pedals they are fine, when I put my shoes in her's they do the same thing they do in my pedals so its not a problem with the pedals. I just bought a new pair or cleats and they do the same thing as the more worn cleats so its not the cleats.
Ok so does anyone else have this problem? Is the look adaptor for my soles not the right one to use? I have the sidi catalogue and they do not make a spd-sl adaptor. I hope I dont have to buy another pair of shoes! HELP ME!!!!!!

I have the Sidi Genius 4 shoes (with the Millenium sole that requires adaptor plates) and Ultegra SPD-SL pedals. I have not noticed the problems that you mentioned using my Look three-hole adaptor plate. Make sure that the screws you are using are the right length. I noticed that with the "Sidi" cleat screws, they would bottom out in the threads before the front of the cleat was secured all the way and make a lump on the insole of the shoe. The stock Shimano screws were too short to even reach the threads. I solved this by using an extra washer under the Sidi screws (though you could just use a shorter screw as well -- one in between the length of the Shimano and Sidi screws). If you should go this route, I don't think that you would have any problems, but if you use an extra washer, make sure that the added stack height of the screw does not interfere with the operation of the clipping in/out of the pedal, etc., as any such interference could, of course, cause serious injury, death and other terrible things.

That's strange. I'm using the same pedals with sidi shoes/look adapter. I haven't noticed any play. Could be that you're using some bad screws? The fourth screw (the one behind the cleat) is in?
