Has anyone else in the group had this? I had one this morning offering me some [censored] (I didn't read it too hard), but it was genuine bike stuff, and claiming that they were only sending to customers blah blah. I've never bought anything for a bike on-line, and never given my email address to any other bike store, so the only way I can think that they have my address is through here, and to stick my name on a mailing list they'd have to demunge my email address manually by removing the X. And I hardly ever post.
They've guarenteed never to get any of my business.

They seem like decent people to me, I've dealt with them several times and they've always been helpful and courteous on the phone.

Heh. Dunno, most people I know are unlikely to do that, and those that might be wouldn't choose a bike shop :~) It remains a mystery, I guess seeing as noone here seems to have had it as well that it's not "spam" in the unethically-harvested-address sense, so I'm not as irritated as I was, but I still can't work out why me.

Don't worry about it. My previous work email address regularly got spam about cheap cigars. No idea where they got the email address from - or why they thought I mighe be interested in cigars. Maybe your bike shop was offered a dubious list of "opted in" email addresses, which had indeed been harvested from this newsgroup. Don't underestimate spambots. Removing the only uppercase letter in an email address is probaly pretty high on the list of things they try.

For a long period of time I received junk mail from Argentina (email obviously). As best as I can make it out it was mostly for (somewhat dodgy) computer hardware / software.
In fact <checks junk folder>, I'm still getting them, but my spam filter appears to be getting better at sorting them.

Yes, but then you'd expect others to have had it, especially considering my relatively low posting rate compared with many others.
