I have no idea what you mean by "blending" but I have had my
Avanti Barracuda mountain bike for about four years and very happy with it
but I only use it for recreation not serious scrub bashing.

I assume you are talking about the reports
of carbon/alu frame separation, where the
carbon chainstays/seatstays detach from the
alu main triangle of Avanti Corsa Carbonio
road frames?

at least until someone proves there was a
problem. Quite likely it is an LBS invention
to scare buyers towards the all-alu frames
they had in stock..

My Avanti Montari all alu hardtail is still going
strong - pity about the rider.. ;-)

a) could have been a problem in the earlier bikes, heard similar of other bikes.
b) depends on the rider, I'm a tall flyweight so I need a large light bike and I'm never going to stress it with my power - the perfect race bike for me could well be torn apart by another rider.

We have a pair of Avanti Explorer FX's that we use for recreational riding
and touring. No problem with the frame, running gear, etc. I did have a
problem breaking spokes when I first got it, but supposedly Avanti have
addressed this years ago by now only using Swiss DT. I bought some new
wheels, guess I could have had them rebuilt, but didn't think of that at
the time.

The bike gets a fair hammering when we tour - carrying me ~100kg,
10kg of gear, and towing 35kg of kids in a trailer. (or on the other
days carrying about 30kg of just gear).

So... apart from the spokes, no complaints.

I'm about 85kg and ride pretty heavy (ie, not what you'd call graceful
on a bike). I've had my Avanti Corsa Pro Carbonio (carbon seat stays)
for just over a year and it's been fine. It's my first road bike
though, and I have nothing to compare it to other than my previous
mountain bikes. It feels a little flexy in the back end but nothing
serious; nothing rubs when sprinting or anything.
What can I say? I'm hardly loyal to a brand because I own their bike,
but I haven't noticed if it's rubbish yet. Hope this helps.

PS: If you've "found" them to be not so good bonding alu and carbon (I
assume), rather than heard this, I assume you have seen cases of them
failing and you know they're rubbish.

Well, I'm (ony) a recreational rider, but have been very happy with the years
of service I've had from my hardtail Avanti Hammer. Does a great job with
loaded panniers, and a fine job on singletrack.

In fact, I've recommended Avanti bikes to other people after my very positive
experience.

i think it is funny that this is the 2nd or 3rd person to bring this up in the past 6 months.......i think that this is because avanti bikes are poo!

Ive broken 6 avanti frames (road and MTB) and my friend has broken 2 (MTB). A shame, because 10 years ago they made the most bomb proof MTB frames, then they started getting [censored] alloy frames from taiwan, and well, its all gone downhill really...

Howdy,

I know a few people with Avanti Corsa Carbonio who haven't had any
problems with them.

It was also interesting to see Bret Aitken riding one when he was out
with our group a few weeks ago.

Maybe he got new frames under warranty.
I've only heard good things about Avanti's warranty. Sure you may stomp the frame & crack/break it but they will replace it. Other brands (one starts with G) won't do this.

yep, all the frames were under warranty and i didnt have the money to go down the "new frame" path at that stage. Granted, they were very responsive when it came to coming up good on the warranty. Its just the quality in the first place that was the problem.

I've had a 1999 "Corsa Pro Team" road bike and a top of the line 2001 hardtail (can't remember the model). No problems with either and they were given a hard time by me.
Several dealings with Avanti by email for parts etc and found them to be extremely helpfull.
Biggest problem with them is its not a glamour brand. Most people thinks its all cheap [censored] but its not.

My not so local LBS told me when I bought my 2001 middle of range Avanti hardtail that Avanti had a good reputation for building solid reliable (mtb) frames! So there you go .... I am not big (<50kg) but am very good at dropping the bike on its side, into holes, into ocean deep puddles, into trees, into rocks etc and apart from some scratches and paint chips it's like my old diesel landcruiser - just keeps on going, no problems at all.

I agree with Malcomm - they are not a glamour brand and I have noticed ppl wrinkling their noses at it.. I guess they have a hayfever problem??

Replacing the frame, is a weeny bit more that a part, and given the fact
that this thread is all about Avanti strengths, I'm not sure that having

Could not resist dropping in from all the way up here. I recently
"upgraded" the frame of my first roadie, and now the Cinelli
saddle on its SR seatpost are the last original parts remaining
(I haven't bought another complete cycle since the early 80's
either).

Reading of this process reminded me of Joshua Slocum, the first
person to sail around the world alone. In his book he wrote that
realizing the extent of repairs his boat "Spray" needed for the
journey, he got worried and contacted Lloyd's register. They
confirmed him that legally "Spray" will remain the same "Spray"
even if every plank and nail is replaced.

In this sense I can also say that my "Nishiki Trim Master" is the
best bike I have had so far - even if it says "Somec Supercorsa" on
the current frame 😉

My grand-dad had an axe like that. Bloody best axe ever made. It's
lasted 50 years. The head has been replaced four times, and the handle
about 25 times, but geez it's a bloody good axe.
