๐ OK, I went to clipless. I know there are lots of opinions as to which brand is best, but I bought Look's (pp337). No problem getting into them at all - but that leaves getting out. I clip my right foot in at about 2 o'clock position. I get under way, raise to the saddle, and then clip the left foot in. SO, when I stop, I want my right foot down, left foot out, and lean left for rest or demounting. The problem I'm having is: If I try to unclip with my left foot at the top of the rotation - I can't seem to get the proper leverage. So I have been cliping out at the bottom - which means I have to continue to pedal with the right leg to get it into the bottom position.
Since the clip-in motion is a downward push of the heel - wouldn't a pull upward rather than an outward rotaion be better?
Simply put - I need some suggestions as to best way to get out of Look's.

What you are doing is correct, you get much better leverage to rotate on a downward stroke. If you find yourself not able to get to the downward stroke in time you can always back pedal. The pedals are designed to step in but not pull out straight because in a sprint or a tough climb the riders pull up on the stroke as much as they push down HARD. Even in normal riding you should be riding with both legs working at all times: one push down and one pull up.

It is easier to clip out when you're putting some weight on the pedal rather than trying to pull up and twist.
Believe the Looks will get easier as they break in. You could try some dry lube spray on the back (moveable) clip of the pedals as well.

New Look pedals tend to be fairly stiff, I usually sit on my bike inside and clip in and out 50-100 times befroe using them. Also check the adjustment, it may be set too tight. You'll find it gets easier as you get more used to the pedals, unclipping gets to be as instinctive as breathing after a while.
