  1. My local LBS has what looks like a great deal on a Cannondale R800 triple. (about $300 dollars off) The bike is new. I noticed the shifters/brake levers are Tiagra. The rest of the bike is Shimano 105. My searches on the Cannondale site show that the R800 line uses Shimano 105. Should I be wary? Has the LBS switched out components to drop the price?

  2. The 2004 R800 did have Shamino 105 levers/shifters. So..... Somewhere along the line someone did something.

Buy it, for $169 you can get 105 shifters from Performance...or maybe ask the shop what they would charge you to swap the Tiagras out for 105s. If they'll swap them for say $150, you're coming out ahead.

I appreciate your feedback. It looks like the rims may have been switched as well.

It always pays to know the product. Had a similar thing happen to me but not to that extent. Bought a Specialized road bike and the bike the LBS sold me had a Shimano HG-50 (Tiagra) grade cassette. The Specialized web site specifically states that the cassette is supposed to be a Shimano HG-70 105, 9-speed, 12x25t.

The culpret even screwed up putting the 12 tooth cog on as it wasn't mounted flush with the others. The dope didn't even use the key on the freehub.

  6. I think I'd suspect a bad shop if they did this, and also why would htey have shifted the old stuff (maybe not just to steal what you should be getting?)? Maybe someone broke things on the bike and they needed replacing? What do they say when you ask them about the specs you read?
