It's cold. I need a vest. An insulating vest that will fit nicely under my windbreaker. I'm thinking thermax maybe? Polartec? Something like that. You get the idea. Something light enough to wear and still be able to move, but provides some core warmth.
I checked the usual stores around here and there was nothing. Everything was either too heavy (think skiing) or too light (think jogging).
So I googled and got more results than I know what to do with. And besides, I've never heard of most of those companies and would hesitate to order from them.
So does anybody have a recommendation for a decent online source for lightweight-but-nice-and-warm vests? What's you're favorite online place for outerwear that's good for cycling?

Pearl Izumi Barrier vest. It is made from lightweight fleece for warmth, plus a windblocker front. When cycling in cold weather, the windblocker is just as important as the insulation.

_ What temp range are you talking about? In my experience, it's often worthwhile to look outside of cycling for colder weather gear as most cyclists think anything below 50 degrees as unbearably cold. I can make lot's of recommendations for cheap online sources with a bit more info.

A fleece vest with stretch side panels and a windstopper front would be ideal for cold weather riding. And you can't go wrong when dealing with Sierra Trading Post for great prices and great service:

I always go to the 'second hand' shops and look for cool stuff made out of wool. Ppl will often donate stuff with imperfections or holes, and heck, I could care less if something has a little hole for bikewear.

Ordering clothes online is a total crapshoot. I've ordered two nearly-identical jerseys (same manufacturer (Nalini) for two different teams) in two different sizes (to determine which would be the better fit and exchange the other) and discovered they were almost exactly the same fit (and luckily the right fit; I still wear both regularly). I've also ordered shirts from size-conscious websites that were specified in chest-measurement inches that showed up 10 inches larger (I kid you not) but marked exactly as advertised.
So ymmv.

Rule number one appears to be AVOID COTTON. I'd bet that thermal underware is 100% cotton.
But I did just get some nice polyester/spandex stuff at Target yesterday. Wore some of it this morning and was quite comfortable. It was 46F when I started out.

I have found that if it isn't on Performance's website, they no longer have it in stock. In my experience, anything available in the catalog, can be found online. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it is not the rule. This is not a big deal, and I understood that you meant "in addition" to rather than just quantity. The bottom line, is that the catalog offers no more variety of selection, than online. And within a day, the online availability is up to date. I believe this applies to Nashbar, as well as Performance. I have no experience with SuperGo, although I think they are owned by the same corp that owns the other two. When I have looked at the SuperGo catalogs, I found them to have less of a selection, than the other two.

I tend to buy fairly expensive but well made items. I have a Patagonia vest with a windblocker fleece front and a large rar zip pocket that is now 10 years old and in perfect condition. I'd recommend it to anyone. Comew out to less than $10 a year. I also use it for rock climbing and that will beat the hell out of most things but this vest shows no wear at all.

That would be standard industry practice. Catalogs are clumsy old technology that has to be prepared long in advance and can't be changed once it is mailed. Web sites are a lot more flexible.
If you have only one albatross, you probably won't put it in the catalog, but can put it in the "closeout" bin of the web site in hopes some old sailor will buy it.
