There's this new thing called the Junior Cycling Academy in Park City,
Utah. They have a cycling team, and you get your travel taken care of,
some clothing, "pro deals' on parts, entry fees, coaching, training
rides, room and board, etc., for $1900 a month.

If what you're doing is "talking someone out of 100K" you're doomed to fail.
If what you're doing is providing someone with the opportunity to gain
market awareness by sponsoring a cycling team for 100K, you might have a
chance at giving your sponsor their money's worth.

The problem with a good number of bike racers is that they have no [censored]
idea how the real world works.

in cycling there isn't any faking. the people who ride and race each
other know how good everyone is or isn't, doesn't matter what kit you
wear.

the subway option might be a good one for someone who knows they're
good and has confidence in themselves this might be a way to get a
ticket into NRC events, otherwise it's a way to fleece a few stooges.

I offered juniors a similar program, but all they needed to pay for
was some of the travel costs. Yeah, we basically ran a $15,000 team
on $7000-$8000 but we had some great successes and the kids got a huge
boost in experience. Unfortunately bad blood (to put it simply and
mildly) with sponsors will likely spell the end for my team. However,
I would never pay 2 grand a month! That's a rip off no matter how you
slice it. I could offer the same thing to juniors for a fraction of
that and still make money off it!

Indeed. We have a sub 10K budget as well. I see local master's teams
with a bigger budget than us but they dont accomplish squat relatively.
(and they certainly don't need the money). But, being poor makes us
scrappy and creative.
