  1. After what must seem like the longest self-build project known to urc my
Dutch Speed bicycle finally made it out of the workshop yesterday. I'd
actually finished it a few weeks earlier but savage weather on the days I
was at home put me off testing the thing. I only had half an hour to give
it a go and the wind was getting up again---the downside of living on a
moor. So, I wheeled it out onto the road, a gently sloping straight road,
and gave it a go. I spent the best part of the half hour just coasting
down the road (and walking it back up) just getting a feel for the
balance. I must admit to it feeling a bit weird and I didn't pluck up the
courage to pedal on this brief test ride, though it didn't half pick up
speed quickly. I'm hoping next Saturday will be a full test day that
should involve me powering the thing rather than letting gravity do the
    work.

After that excitement my other half and I hopped on our uprights and
cycled to a pub and back.

Class. I hope you find it worth the wait.

I have finally got round to putting some pictures of mine up on

So do I. I now have no excuse in setting up the forge. Up until now the
partially built 'bent hanging from the ceiling got in the way somewhat.

Can I ask where you got the ESGE twin legged kickstand? The one single
legged kickstand I have in my box of bits is too short. So it's either
bodge or buy and the two legs look a better option

I'll be sticking some picture up when I get them off my other half's
    camera.

Avon Valley Cyclery ordered it for me. There are two lengths and even
the long one is too short for the Speedbike so some bodgery is still
required. I used a combination of a wooden block to lower the mounting
point a bit together with drilling and tapping the legs so that I could
lengthen them a few inches with studding and tubing.

Two legs gives good stability when parked; however, the real benefit is
that the stand holds the back wheel just clear of the ground so that
gear adjustments etc. can be done very easily.

If you have to use a single kicksatnd then one that mounts at the back
of the chain stay and folds forward might be easier to fit and use. The
top left picture on the Dutchbikes web site (follow "Miscellaneous",
"Some Pictures"😉 hows the kind of thing I mean.

    regards

    Peter

Whence, I wonder? Last I heard the manufacturers had closed their
    doors.

I'll ask next time I see them. It was about a year ago so the
manufacturer might have vanished after I got mine.

I also have a vague recollection about the stand being a German product
but now made in Switzerland or vice versa. If so, the manufacturer
going bust and the product still being available wouldn't necessarily be
    mutually exclusive!
