  1. When I started running, about 5 years ago, my sister could beat me in all
the races. Today we did a 10k race together, one she had beat me at before.

Thinking back, the first race I ever beat my sister at, I ran with her until
the last turn, then I took off for the finish. The sad part was, a girl in
her AG, passed her shortly after that, and took the 3rd place trophy away
    from her.

Today was a little different. I did not try to push her too hard, probably
because I couldn't. I took off right after the last turn and my sister
finished about 6 seconds behind me. The girl that took second in her AG,
finished 12 seconds behind her and we both remember the exact location we
passed her at. Heck, we must have been behind her for 4 miles.

My sister said it was her 1st 1st place trophy, but I know she has won one
before. It was certainly the first time she ever won a 1st place trophy
running with me. She finished the 10k in 50:08.

BTW I am thinking of doing the Detroit Marathon as my marathon for this
    year.

It's in 8 weeks. You are just now thinking of doing it?

    Phil,
Some of us are in "marathon condition" 24/7, ready to run one in a moments
    notice.

Yeah. If Roger 2k has a reasonable mileage base, and a couple of long runs
under his belt, he'd probably be in the low 4's for his marathon, based on
    his 10k of 50 min.

Thanks and 8 weeks, couldn't be any worse than my first ½ marathon with next
    to no training.

So what is making you suddenly push the distance plunger with a short
time line? We all know this is what really angers the injury Gods.

Plus the little zit wears nikes, so he's going to get injured anyway.

I would really like to do Detroit, more than any marathon right now. So, I
guess the injury Gods will be paying me a visit. I just hope it will not be
as bad as it has been.
