How about a new newsgroup uk.rec.gps? To cover all recreational uses of GPS, walking, sailing, car navigation, geocaching.
Well, it might get rid of them but in general I reckon it's better to keep such posts on main-line groups where others can counsel against. If you -rely- on GPS you are already lost. So I vote NO.

I think there's a limit to the length of a name and a group name can't contain numerals.

IIRC 128 chars including the short description of the group.
