  1. I have encountered a problem when using a Thermarest. Between it, the tent
groundsheet and the sleeping bag, they present three somewhat frictionless
surfaces with the result that I spend all night sliding off the mat and
trying to reposition it. Has anyone else had the same problem and come up
    with a solution?

ive not had the problem but the solution to me seems like velcro. get that
self adhesive stuff plastered all over them. should work

Turn your thermarest over. One side is suposedly less slippery than
the other. If that doesn't work get an old sheet and make a cover for
    it.

Yes... and - no. Except, I don't backpack, so carrying a rug or
picnic blanket in the car isn't a problem. I spread the rug out
on the floor of the tent as a sort of carpet before putting the
T-Rest and sleeping bag in. Whether or not that helps though I
have no idea, because I still tend to find myself half off the T-
Rest halfway through the night, and I've noticed that my husband
    has the same problem.

Ortlieb do something similar that is not so slippery. Not exactly the
ideal solution if you've already got your thermarest tho :-(

Pitch your tent on level ground?

Try a couple of square sections of 'non-slip' matting. Can be purchased on
a roll from Wilko's or similar. It's designed to be put under trays etc on
a kitchen work surface. I have used some for years now (still the same to
bits) and they don't even register on my scales.

I've got mate who had the same problem . Apparently newer Thermarests are
made from a non-slip material. His solution was to paint the surface with a
dilute solution of that white glue that kids use in school. When it dried it
    left the surface slightly tacky.

Please dont take this as gospel, I'd hate to see you (Or anyone else) damage
your thermarest. It does -seem- to work though.

Fran, if my maths is correct then you only need one T-rest :-)

Good idea! I bought a sheet from Halfords as for size I would say it was
about twice the size of the boot of my Vectra Estate - I know that as I
had to cut it in half.

The sheet is thin rubber with thousands of tiny perforations and the
material is sort of tacky. When the tackiness wears off, just wash the
sheet and it is as good as new.

The same sort of stuff is used as a non-slip mat for wood-workers using
it under a piece of work with a router.

Ah, the dreaded PVA glue! It's wonderful stuff (dunno about on a
T-Rest though) and can be bought in small 'tins' - they're
probably plastic these days - from hardware shops. Ask for PVA
    sealant.

    Hmm. Somehow, I don't think it'd work :-)
