Yes, very hot here in the south ..... yet again.
Breakfast in the garden at 0830, in the car by 0910 and Clare and I were on
our way to Walderton Village, West Sussex for a Saturday 'stroll'. Car
parked and on our way over the golden fields by 0945. Blue sky, no wind and
hot to boot. Great place to be outdoors.
The walk took us along to the very small village of Stoughton where we
joined a track taking us up onto Stoughton Down. Brilliant views back down
the valley. From the top we crossed over Kingley Vale on to Bow Hill and
dropped down the south side to Stoke Down. Golden fields everywhere ....
and being hastily harvested. Bet the farmers down here cannot believe their
luck, as yet we have not seen any of the heavy down pours of rain.
From Stoke Down, it was back up hill onto Walderton Down. Splendid views
south to the Isle of Wight and The Solent, although a little hazy. Passing
back down the western end of Kingley Vale, we arrive back at Walderton
Village. We stopped off in The Barley Mow for a rather pleasant Ringwood's
49er before returning to the car.
A distance of 7.4 miles with 1,138 ft of ascent.
