Overnight Lakes backpack - suggestions?

Any part of around the Langdales - Stickle Tarn- Harrison Stickle - Angle
Tarn - Bowfell-Crinkle Crags - The Band

Overnight at Stickle for a short walk back, or Angle Tarn for a better
stretch of the legs back along the Langdale valley floor
Plenty of drop off points on the Angle Tarn/Harrison Stickle side if things
get too bad

Hmm, nice plan, thanks. I'm not a great fan of Stickle Tarn, but a
stay at Angle Tarn would be really nice.

I'm hoping my Ankwet Harvey 1:25k Lakes will come tomorrow (since it
didn't come y/day or today... sob...), in which case I'm looking
forward to trying to plot out a nice route :-)

Fwiw, the only wild campers I have seen in the Lakes were at Sprinkling
Tarn, which is a lovely spot. You could park up in Seathwaite and take in
Great Gable on your way out with a simple walk back, or alternatively start
from Wasdale Head and tackle Scafell/Scafell Pike then head out to Great End
and take the brave route straight down to the tarn. (There may be a way up
Great Gable from that side too, not sure.)

I'm supposed to doing Gable on Saturday, but I think my luck with the
weather is about to run out.

Well the Lakes is the place I've done most of my backpacking, but I've
not done much walking there - and no backpacking at all - for a fair
number of years now. I started out wild camping at Easedale tarn, and
I've camped at Sprinkling tarn on a number of occasions, but at one
stage I started going through the Nuttall tarns books to find nice
places to camp, so I've stayed at quite a lot of different tarns once
or twice, a number of years ago.

Ideally I'm hoping to find a circular route that would allow for an
early start on Saturday for a walk of about 14 miles or so, a wild
camp on Saturday night (Angle tarn or Sprinkling tarn would be
lovely), and then a fairly short walk back to the start - no more than
5 miles or so - on Sunday morning. Any ideas, anyone? I'm sure this
would be easier if the Anquet thingy had come. (Grumble, grumble...)

14 miles ? We are not worthy, we are not worthy...

A 20-mile round is quite hard to find in the Lakes, without an awful lot of
ascent. However, you could still start from Wasdale (although probably not
very early as it takes hours to get there from anywhere) and tackle the
ridge including Pillar from West to East, over Great Gable and down to
Styhead Tarn, finishing up at Sprinkling Tarn. Then if you feel up to
another decent walk in the morning, carry on up to Esk Hause and make for
Scafell Pike. Otherwise, plod down the rather scraggy path back to Wasdale
Head.

If the weather is rotten, scale down your plans considerably. There's
nothing more miserable than trudging round a long route in the rain and
wind, unable to see a thing.

According to http://www.mwis.org.uk/mountain/LD.PDF it may improve on
Saturday afternoon. I often find the forecasts reasonable, but timing is
the trickiest bit.

Something around Keswick - Skiddaw - Great Calva - Blencathra - Clough
Head - Dodds - Helvellyn - camp at Grisedale Tarn - back to Keswick?

Great range of terrain (heather/rocks/bogs). sensible ascent, lots of
views.

Cow Bridge, Caudale Moor via Rough Edge, Thornthwaite Beacon, High
Street, Rest Dodd, Angle Tarn (camp), Angletarn Pikes, Place Fell,
descend near Scalehow Beck to Ullswater, return via the lakeside path
to Rooking, Beckstones and Deepdale Bridge to Cow Bridge.
