  1. The current most favoured theory of anti-aging and anti-disease is
based on the premise that free radical damage is the major cause of
disease and anti-aging. Therefore to counter that, it is necessary to
take Anti Oxidents , the main ones being :
Vit C, Vit E, Beta Carotene, CoQ10 and Se at doses significantly
    higher then the RDAs.
This raises alot of issues and it is also a hotly debated subject.
there has been studies on both camps, the Pro and Anti Camps trying to
prove their arguments. Certainly there are a large number of studies
which do show that these anti-oxidents play a very important role in
the reduction of degenerative diseases. However does that mean a
normal and healthy person with no degenerative diseases should
fortifiey himself with doses 10 to 20 x the RDA on an ongoing daily
basis just to ensure that degenerative diseases and or aging is set
back ...This point has not been proven yet...

Firstly Odixation and the Oxidative Process is hundreds of millions of
years old. As long as life has depended on Oxygen and Hydrocarbons to
generate energy, there has been oxidation and free radicals...So free
radicals have always been with us...the question is to what extent
these free radicals cause aging and disease?. And has the production
of free radicals in the human body increased by oreders of magnitude
over the last 100 years because of industrialisation? No one has
really quantified that..we dont know how much more free radical damage
modern humans have been exposed to..so we cant really hypothesise
about the extent of modren disease and modren life and its impact on
    health and free radical production...

But what is clear is that those cultures and communities that have
lived on a diet and a nutrition that is unprocessed and low on refined
carbohydtrates have been able to bypass all the major modren diseases
that plague our society.. e.g. the Hanza people, the rural african
diet (ref. Denis Burkitt M.D.) which is based on fresh fruit, vegtables
and coarsely ground cereals, the old traditional eskimo diet of raw
fermented meat an blubber..the anthropologist V. Stefansson lived
among the Eskimos for 7 years and became an authority on primitive
eskimo life..his reports appeared in many journals and he emphasised
the excellant state of their health and freedom from disease..
Now both the Eskimos and the Rural Africans etc are just as exposed to
Oxidative Stress that modren societies are exposed to..perhaps not as
much..however, it is THE RIGHT NUTRITION that has freed them from
disease and not Anti Oxidents...Also the life of Thomas Parr who lived
in the UK for 152 years in the 16th century testify to this..he was a
farm labourer who lived on vegtables , green cheese, buttermilk...
The Work of Dr Ann Wigmore also seems to testify to the fact that the
Right Nutrition is a major factor which controls health, disease and
    aging...

If we were really meant to take anti-oxidents at the levels which are
being recommended (10 to 20 x RDA) then wouldnt nature have come up
with a pre-packaged solution of these high doeses of anti-oxidents...

    TIA
    Steve

  2. Your ideas are deeply flawed.

Who says these are the main ones? I avoid trans beta carotene
    supplements.
I take vitamin K which is among other things an antioxidant.
I eat and take a range of flavonoids, anthocyanins, and similar materials.
I'll grant I take vitamin c, various E vitamers (some of which aren't
classed as E by the EU), CoQ-10, Se.

Don't whine when the Doctor removes your prostate and
give you estrogen to buy you another year or two of life. All
because you avoided Se, vitamin D3, vitamin E succinate, and
    androgen supplements.

I disagree even if the proof is not as complete as you would like.
You'll have been dead for generations by the time antioxidants use
    is fully developed and proven.

Blah Blah. Even you known you are just slapping the key board as
    you didn't bother to spellcheck.

The bulk of the generation was dead by age 90 in all these populations.

There are though.... Parsley, dandelion greens, beef liver, plums, spinach,
    certain herbs, cherries, strawberries, blueberries.

And your reasoniing is anthropomorphic but that has been done
to death on this forum. OOPs a cross posted posting!! That explains
it.......the defective reasoning that so characterizes
    misc.health.alternative
that forum is just a dark abyess.............I've killfiled nearly
everyone who posts to that forum with exception of David Wright and we
    agree only rarely;-)
