Hello everyone-
I am a Muscular therapist that specializes in soft tissue injury and rehabilitation. I work out of a space in East Greenwich, RI. I wanted to take a minute to offer myself as a sorce of information and healing to all who ride competitively and for liesure. Please feel free to ask me about stretching and pain relief or soft tissue issues. I work with muscle, tendon, and ligament tissues and have extensive experience working with professional athletes and exercise orientated people.
My clients and I have found, over time and documentation, that a well balanced diet, conditioning, stretching, rest, and monthly muscular treatments have yeilded better athletic results than that of a plan lacking these monthly treatments. Athletes repetitively break down soft tissue to rebuild stronger fibers and often times within this process tears that exceed healthy micro tears often occur creating lasting weaknesses within the muscle tissue. I work closely with these athletes, their schedules, and their goals to overcome plateus and road blocks. I am here for your information and guidance and wish you all safe rides and optimal health!
Blessings.

What do you have your athletes do in terms of stretching, conditioning and these "monthly muscular treatments"? Do your athletes do any strength training?

Thanks for the help - we'll try to stump you! -
Ok I'll begin with a question.
I ride regularly for liesure. I ride 5+ times per week for about an hour at a time. Now that daylight savings time has ended I'll be lucky to get that much riding in.
I do practice yoga about 3 times per week but will increase that during the winter, replacing some of my riding time.
My issue has been pain along the outsides of my legs. Not specifically attributable to my quads or hams but rather on the side of the legs. This is more prevelent when I ride more.
When I practice the yoga I can't touch my toes until I stretch the sides of my legs in awkward positions. I can stretch them though but I have to experience a great deal of pain during the stretch to see any results.
With that as limited background I have 2 questions. What is possibly causing the pain meaning is it muscular a tendon or a ligament or some of each? Secondly do you have any suggestions on how to prevent it's recurrence or allieviate it an less painful manor?
Thanks for the help.
