  1. Sorry for the Newbie question......but I just got a 2004 trek 5200, I was playing around with it and testing it out and I must have done something to the shifter....for some reason it only down shifted when i went out for a quick test ride. right now its stuck on the lowest rear cass. and the lowest front chainring. obviously its rubbing the chainring shift lever in this postion. what do i need to do to fix the shifting system. The bike is stock with:
    SHIFTERS: Shimano Ultegra
    FRONT DERAILLEUR: Shimano Ultegra
    REAR DERAILLEUR: Shimano Ultegra
CRANKSET: Shimano Ultegra 53/39 or 52/42/30
CASSETTE: Shimano Ultegra 12-25, 9 speed

what adjustments do i have to make?

  2. never mind...... I figured it out!

  3. Sounds like you were cross chaining. 3x9 doesn't add up to 27. Some of the ratios are the same. When you are on the small chainring, use only the left side of you cassette, maybe four or five gears. When you are on the big chainring, use only the right side of the cassette (4 or 5). If you have a middle chainring, stay close to the center of the cassette (middle 5 or 6 gears). Otherwise you are really bending the chain.
