That's just what I've been doing since about February or March. I've been
keeping my calories to around 1200 to 1300, and only recently upped my carbs
from around 30 per day. I'm finding that I'm able to eat a greater variety
of foods and still lose, even though I'm upping my carbs to the higher
level. It's just been my experiment with how to live a 'carb conscious'
lifestyle.

carbs go up, maintaining a calorie restriction will become increasingly

It concerns me, that you are not monitoring carbs.
