Now that all last night's partygoers have probably
wended and meandered their ways home and are now
sleeping it off, I'm gonna go out, ride around with
no specific destinations, and just see what it looks
like out there.

It's just grey & drizzly here in Vancouver BC, at
a temp of 2C. There were some vestigal remnants of
snow flurries in the front yard first thing this
morning, but it's all washed away now. Traffic
seems to be very subdued and quiet.

I was a young grandmother. The older set of grandkids (now 13-21) all
learned to ride bikes between the age of 5 and 7. I had one who wasn't too
interested in riding and thought I would never get him to give up the
training wheels. Those training wheels were set as high as possible and
never touched the ground but he insisted they couldn't come off - stubborn
just like his mother<g> They were around 9-10 when I started taking them on
longer rides of 10-15 miles. When they were big enough to ride some of my
hybrids I started taking them on longer rides (15-40 miles). Most of them
had inexpensive mountain bikes and IMHO they aren't too comfortable on
longer rides.

The younger set of grandkids (1 and 3) are being introduced to biking in the
bike trailer. The 3 year old is quite content on longer rides but the 1
year old is only good around the neighborhood. I have a 5 month old
great-granddaughter and I hope to introduce her to biking next summer when
they're here on vacation. They live in SC.

You seem to be enjoying the biking and I hope you decide to continue with
it.

I am with you 100%. I am a grandfather by proxy. My wife had been
married before me and had two children early on when she was about 18
and 20. Her daughter, my stepdaughter, has 5 kids, 18,17,13,10, and 3.
The 10 year old girl loves to ride, walk or do about anything with
grandpa (me) and all her girlfriends have joined in the crowd. I now
have an all blond crew of girls from 7 to 17 riding and walking with me
whenever I don't go out for a serious exercise ride, but it is fun
either way. 56 with a 38 year old stepdaughter and an 18 year old
grandson. I may be a great grandpa by 58, but I think my grandson is
more interested in his play station 2 than girls <sigh of relief>. There
is a bit of an endurance problem with some of the kids since their mode
is to go like crazy and then go home and eat/drink and recharge. On the
road we stop about every 2 or 3 miles for someone to eat, drink, or
relief stop behind a bush. We get there but not very fast and they all
have fun and I am surrounded by happy faces. The upshot to all this is I
get all the gossip whether I want it or not. There is a 7 year old in
the mix who never is quiet so I get quite an earful, yet she is the most
well behaved and polite one of the bunch. I may have found my calling,
being a guidance counselor of sorts. Fun, education, and riding, all at
once.

I was just out riding around in the sunshine. Beauty.
Thought about checking out the bike polo at Britannia,
but got sidetracked, window shopping for tools for work.
FWIW, Midland Liquidators isn't open today. But will be
open tomorrow. So much stuff I need.
Especially money :-)

I know I'm not alone in that, at this time of year.
And my beloved utility bike, Ol' Pig Iron, is really
suffering from hard use. The rims are showing more
wear than I like. I hope we all get big, fat tax refunds
this year.

Yesterday was actually pretty good for riding. It takes
more than weather to ruin a day.
