Quoted message said:I recommend that anyone whose glasses cause problems when out walking
get a supply of daily disposable contact lenses. Tesco (the ones that
have opticians) do them for £22 for 30 pairs. That could last you ages
if you only use them for wet weather walking. No hassle. No cleaning.
No likelihood of infections. No discomfort (usually).
Absolutely - as a runner, cyclist and dabbler in tris (and long-time
high-power spec wearer)as well as a walker, contact lenses proved to be
the best thing since the proverbial sliced bread when I switched to them
some years ago.
At first, the daily disposables were not available in my prescription,
but now they are - pricey perhaps but really worth the money.
I doubt if I would do the routes I do now, in the weather one encounters
if I still had specs.
It could appear as somewhat flippant advice to the original question,
but to be honest, if you are a spec-wearing walker, contact lenses will
solve a lot of problems, and could even be a safety measure. Regardless
of the steaming up issue, imagine losing or breaking specs on a hairy
hill! With me, this would be disastrous....
Remember to carry spare lenses in the rucsac though - it's now part of
my safety kit checklist, along with survival bag, fak, etc etc - I even
include an old pair of specs.
My safety adage : Belt - Braces - and a clean pair of pants :-)
Cheers,
Steve
