  1. I'm low-carbing for Blood Glucose stabilization, not for weight. I've got
the carbs low enough, now wanting to add some for more energy.

I like the theory of the caveman diets: stick with what the monkeys and the
cavemen ate before newfangled inventions like fire and agriculture. That
would mean no grains, flour, etc -- and maybe no potatoes or popcorn.

I'd expect the carbs of those days would be fruit and (woops) sugarcane,
honey, etc. So, has anyone else who is watching GI/GL tried this? Perhaps
making them slower to absorb somehow? With what results?

Keep in mind that fruit was not as readily available to primitive man as it
is to us, and the fruit that was available was smaller and less sweet. I'd
say only eat wild fruit that you harvest yourself. Climb trees and eat
whatever you can carry safely back to your house while being chased by
wolves, and you'll probably do fine. ;o)

I tend to have more energy with Low-Carb then any other WOE that I have
ever tried. how long have you been on low-carb?

    before fire?
This means you will be eating a lot of beef tartar and tuna tartar
oh and dont forget they had to hunt for things on foot and kill with
little more then a rock but hey that burns a lot of calories and will
give you a skill that not everyone has. oh and it will make the meat
much more fresh so the tartars should be a lot safer that way

    That

Potatoes and popcorn arent even allowed on the low-glycemic index and I'm
    sure
the cavemen that didn't have fire didnt have popcorn

I realy think you should look at the low-glycemic index at least that would
    help you make
the right choices as you add more into your diet... It seems to me that you
    want to add
things that you miss like popcorn and if you add stuff like this then doing
    low-carb even
for health reasons is out the window.

IMO The only carbs you should add are things like fruit and veggies but
    watch how much
and what you add... such as bananas they are high in carbs and high on the
    low-glycemic
index and no they are not the same thing

    BTW I found this at
    http://www.erasofelegance.com/entertaining2.html#1
"Historians figure that the earliest prehistoric peoples trapped and ate
    insects, snails, mollusks
and other sea creatures, lizards and birds"

sounds low-carb but hey if you do this diet and you ever come to my home
    please dont eat the
    pets lol

  6. Why do bananas get such a bad rep on LC? Half of a medium banana (medium
being about 7" - 7 7/8" long or 1/4 cup mashed) is only 12g net carbs,
lower than a small apple. I've been eating bananas as part of LC for more
than a month now that I'm in maintenance. Not that I follow the glycemic
index but they're not high-glycemic. They rate 58 on the index.

  7. Bev-Ann thank you.... After searching the house (we are pulling up the ugly
rug in our new (to us)home oh hey look wood floors!!! and the house is a
mess) I found the book and I was wrong I made it all up in my head (the
    banana part)

The new Glucose Revolution : Complete Guide to Glycemic Index Values
Banana, fresh, med... Serving size - 4 oz GI value - 52 net carbs - 24
Apple, fresh, med... Serving size - 4oz GI value - 38 net carbs - 15

    And for skinny

Potato,baked... Serving size- 5oz GI value- 85 net carbs- 30
popcorn, plain, cooked in microwave... Serving size- 1 1/2 cup GI value- 72
    net carbs- 11

Guess I should say the GI values / range

    Low GI: 55-under
    Intermediate GI : 56-69
    High GI: 70 and up

My Dr told me I should do this diet because I have metabolic syndrome. I got
the book and tried it, it worked and I do plan to follow it at some point
in my life but for now I'm doing low-carb.

  9. the reason: half a banana.

when I eat a banana, I usually want at least 3. That's about 75 carbs.

but hey, if half a banana works for you, go for it.

That's true. I used to eat apples from my grandparent's yard (and pears),
and the apples were [censored]! However, I find today's apples to be bland and
    tasteless.

  11. You didn't make it up. I've seen bananas listed as forbidden by some LC
plans because they were high-carb and high-glycemic and I've never
understood why. Some also say the same for melons. Looks like their info
was out-of-date. Thanks for clearing it up. :-)

  17. This might be a silly question, but why would asking what chimps eat in
relation to human nutrition be anti-religious? We're supposed to share
