Pure soap for clothing care

Pure soap flakes will foam like no-one buisness in a washing machine - I
recall in the Air cadets pulling this trick and enveloping our warrant
officer in foam when it filled the room to chest height. I was square
bashing for months....

I use soap flakes in an automatic machine regularly without problems.
The trick is to use much less soap flakes than you would detergent - no
more than 50 grams or a teacup full. Granny's soap flakes are
effectively the same as Lux and the same as Boots Soap Flakes. They are
all made by Dri-Pak, who also sell them under their own name.

my Paramo trousers. As Chris says, I used 50 grams (in a/c with
instructions on the back). There was a lot of foam inside the machine
as the washing went on, but by the time it was over all the foam had
disappeared without any sort of problem.

I got the flakes from Sainsbury's: can't just remember what they were
called.

I have been Googling for liquid soap - which is basically what is needed, I
guess.

Found some but it had some oils in to soften your hands.

Pure soap (no additives) seems hard to find.

I suppose soap flakes are just a heavier fat or oil which has been
saponified.
I was a bit concerned that the soap flakes would disolve easily.

Will post if I find a source of pure liquid soap.

Use less next time.

The general rule for detergent/soap in a washing machine is that it should
show a *thin* line of bubbles when operating. More than that and you are
wasting money. The manufacturers are only interested in selling you lots
more soap flakes/detergent, not an effective wash at minimum cost.

Yup, I'm planning 30 grams.

Where's Outdoor Action? I knew there was a gear shop somewhere off

Not a bad wee shop with helpful staff. I like putting my money into
smaller businesses that give good service. It also helps that you can
park on Stamford Street in all but the really busy times.

Next time I get dragged to Ashton I will detach myself from M and have a
browse. I usually stick close to her in Ashton and keep an eye on
her handbag though . . .
Last time we were there we saw a grey wagtail in the town centre,
foraging for scraps. Could have been a pied, covered in grime I
suppose.....
