A local footpath goes though a meadow where several horse's from a local riding school are kept.
The meadow is sectioned off into several parts with electric fencing,the path approx 1 mtr wide has electric fencing each side.
Over a distance of appox 500mtr there are three stiles, which are ok themselves,but have no place for a dog to get though or under (ok if you have a lapdog) but not so clever trying to lift a fully grown golden retriever over. Does anyone know if a dog gap?? should be provided at the side of stiles please.

I've seen stiles with provision for a dog to go through in the form of a vertically sliding plank in a gap. I doubt if my Labrador would get through, so maybe a fully grown Golden Retriever might have the same problem.

I do not think that there is any legal requirement for the landowner to provide dog gaps.
You might want to approach the riding school in a pleasant manner and ask them if they would install gaps. If that fails you may get some clarification from the local council's right of way officer but they may not be able to help if there is no legal requirement.

"There is no legal requirement to make provision for dogs, despite the fact that they are an accepted accompaniment for walkers" is what my Shropshire 'laws and standards for stiles' crib sheet says. So don't take any dogs you can't carry, or which can't do basic agility!

They're talking about (some places) it under the 'disabled access', no discrimination, EU laws, etc. requirements. Personally I can't see that a way to get a wheelchair, Zimmer frame, or whatever onto XYZ-moor is particularly helpful, given the state of the paths once you get there, but hey, this is bureaucracy we are talking about, it doesn't ahve to make sense.
Dogs may benefit as a side effect....

How long will it be until this happens?
Two things cause this thought a) if someone wants public funding to build a new trail in the USA, it has to be wheel-chair-accessible b) I am told by someone who has just bought a new (private) house (Yorkshire) that the downstairs toilet is wheel-chair accessible: all toilets in newly built houses have to be wheel-chair accessible (Building Regs)
