LCers,
I have a question. I believe LC is the right way for weight lose/control.
but how about for those people who don't have weight problem?
like those skinnys, should they go LC too for healthy reason?
any input is welcome.
Thanks
Mark

I think the a diet without refined carbs and without excessive levels is
appropriate for all humans. Of course, what level of carb intake is
appropriate for a particular person a question.

I think everyone would be better off avoiding foods with high fructose corn
syrup or partially hydrogenated oils.
If a person doesn't get fat from eating carbs, then I don't think they need
to go low-carb. If they want to have a healthier diet, they could choose
the least processed carby foods. Whole grain bread instead of white, a
piece of fruit instead of fruit juice, etc.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

If you will look in Dr. Atkins' writings, he doesn't call this way of eating
"Low Carb". He calls it "Controlled Carb". There's a big difference in
those words. He advocated that people eat low glycemic carbs as a
maintenance way of eating and only have the high glycemic carbs every so
often as a treat.
There are a lot of doctors who advocate this way of eating---low glycemic
carbs in moderation.

I don't think that it is wise to advocate "one diet for everybody".
Comparative dietary studies show that other ways of eating are quite
healthy.
If you eat too much of food of nearly any type, you will gain weight.
And, it would be difficult to recommend that for "skinny" folks, they
would or could be more healthy if they switched to LC.
LC isn't universal magic.
Not everybody, but I think LC is likely to prove to be a healthier way of
life. You might want to review the case made by the Paleo diet people.
Paleo is similar to low carb.

Let's recap, and get into the facts:
The human body is a carb-burning machine. Nobody is going to deny that.
There are carbs in processed food just as there are in natural foods, too.
However, the processed foods seem to have a higher glycemic factor.
Everyone can eat how they want. People who want to lose or control weight
are probably better off with the basics. Nobody with a brain is going to
try to tell anyone else how to live or eat. Each person is different, and
each diet is different. We're all here to tell others what works for us,
not what will work for you. If we could, we would, but your body chemistry
is defferent from mine, and so on.

If you read the book "Life Without Bread" you will learn something
interesting. The others of that book, as well as others, believe that the
proper nutrition for the human species is a diet without excess
carbohydrate. PERIOD. They cite reasons why, which you are welcome to read.
It really isn't about telling someone what to eat.

What is the definition of "excess carbohydrates"? And, do you mean "the
authors of that book"?

It depends (as you know). Yes, I do mean "the authors".

If I was skinny all the time I wouldn't LC. I would eat a wide variety of
foods. I think variety would be a good idea due to all the toxins in all
the food we eat. That way you don't pound your body with the same chemicals
all the time. JMHO,
Curt
